The Political Landscape and Our Future

CASE is embarking on a membership drive to increase Voting Membership and secure our bargaining unit’s future. This is important now more than ever, because our collective-bargaining rights are threatened by the current political landscape.

In a major Supreme Court case last year, the Court tied with a 4-4 decision to make union fair-share fees optional. Now that Justice Neil Gorsuch has been appointed, it is only a matter of time before the issue is raised in Court again, and based on Justice Gorsuch’s record, the ruling will most likely not be in our favor. The removal of fair-share fees would decimate nearly half of our organization’s resources, which would make it extremely difficult for us to survive, unless we act now.

A major part of our membership drive is an expansion of the local union representative program. This includes the recruitment of more local union reps. Many of our departments are underrepresented in our union. That’s why we would like to ask you to become a local union representative.

Local reps are a vital part of our organization, and allow us to better communicate and provide improved representation to our members. It is our goal to have local reps in every department of every city which employs members of our bargaining unit. With a dedicated team of local reps, we will have a fighting chance for the future.

To become a local rep, please fill out the application located at https://www.calattorneys.org/local-rep-app . Once you have applied, you must attend a training to become certified. We have trainings coming up this Autumn, and will keep our members updated as the exact dates become scheduled.

To become a local union representative, you must be a Voting Member. If you are not already a Voting Member of CASE, be sure to fill out the application located at https://www.calattorneys.org/sign-up . By becoming a Voting Member, you can help ensure that our union remains strong and our voices heard, regardless of the outcome of future fair-share fee litigation.

As always, your support of CASE and your colleagues in Bargaining Unit 2 is greatly appreciated.
