Reminder: Cashing Out Leave Credits and Expiring Professional Development Days

1. 2018 Cash out of Vacation / Annual Leave

Pursuant to Section 9.23 of the Unit 2 Memorandum of Understanding:

Employees may be permitted annually to cash out up to eighty (80) hours of accumulated Vacation / Annual Leave as follows:

On or before May 1 of each year, each department head (Director, Executive Officer, etc.) or designee will advise department employees if the department has funds available for the purpose of cashing out accumulated Vacation / Annual Leave. In those departments that have funds available, employees will be advised of the number of hours that may be cashed, not to exceed eighty (80) hours. Employees who wish to cash out Vacation / Annual Leave must submit a written request during the month of May to the individual designated by the Department Director. Departments will issue cash payments for cashed out Vacation / Annual Leave during the month of June.

CASE encourages you to ask your supervisor if your department, commission, or agency will be participating in the vacation / annual leave cash out benefit this month. Not only will this help determine which departments will allow access to this benefit, but it will also demonstrate to the departments the fact that our members value this benefit and want to take advantage of it.

2. Expiration of Professional Development Days by June 29, 2018

Pursuant to Section 13.24 of the Unit 2 Memorandum of Understanding: All Bargaining Unit 2 members shall be permitted up to five (5) Professional Development Days per fiscal year. These days may be used for activities such as, but not limited to, professional association activities, professional or personal development activities and seminars, other types of activities to enhance or promote the personal and professional growth, productivity, and goals of the employee. They are to be requested and approved in the same manner as vacation or annual leave. They are not allowed to be accumulated and must be used in the same fiscal year in which they accrue. These paid leave days are recorded on the STD 634 form as “PT” and listed on the Pay Warrant as “TRNG/DEV”. Therefore, they must be used before the end of the fiscal year – by June 29th of this year. Please direct any questions or comments regarding these benefits to the CASE office at Please include “2018 Cash Out” or “2018 PDD” in the subject line. This email may not reach all CASE members.
