Central District of California - Annual Renewal Fee

August 27, 2020

Dear Bargaining Unit 2 Members:

The United States District Court, Central District of California will begin assessing an annual renewal fee of $25 for all attorneys admitted to the Court’s Bar before September 1 of the prior year. The renewal fee is due on September 1 of each year beginning this September. Attorneys who fail to pay the annual renewal fee by September 30 will be subject to removal from the rolls of the Court’s Bar and must reapply for membership under Local Rule 83-2.1.2.2 and pay the full fee for admission in order to practice before the Court.

Per section 12.7 of the Bargaining Unit 2 Memorandum of Understanding, CASE informed the State that this fee is the same as an admission to practice fee and, as a result, the State must cover the costs of the fee in order to permit its attorneys to continue practicing in the courts where they are already admitted. The State agreed and each department should have already informed their affected attorneys of the process for having the State pay the renewal fee. If you have any questions regarding payment of this fee, please contact Katherine E. Regan at kregan@calattorneys.org.

If you are not yet a CASE Member, please consider joining the majority of your colleagues as we continue our work to improve the salaries and working conditions for all state-employed legal professionals. In the current economic environment, it is more important than ever that we work together to protect our rights.
